PoliticsSecessionist Parti Quebecois wins Quebec election in Canada
The secessionist Parti Quebecois won the most seats in Quebec’s election and is set to form the next provincial government. Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon is expected to become premier and has promised a third independence referendum during his first term, although he says it would wait until Donald Trump leaves office in January 2029. The result ends eight years of Coalition Avenir Quebec rule and creates a new national-unity challenge for Prime Minister Mark Carney.
