ScienceNobel Prize awarded for showing how nerve cells shape feelings
US psychiatrist and neurologist Karl Deisseroth and German scientists Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel have won this year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on optogenetics. Their research has advanced understanding of the brain and neural circuits linked to specific memories, feelings and behaviours, while the technique is also being tested to restore sight.
