US President Donald Trump has nominated his envoy for Belarus, John Coale, as special presidential envoy for hostage affairs with ambassadorial rank. Trump said Coale helped secure the return of more than 65 Americans and allied citizens from Belarus and negotiated the release of over 800 political prisoners in Eastern Europe. The nomination requires Senate approval.
