PoliticsMainland: Taiwan question is foundation of China-US relations

Zhang Han, spokesperson for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, said the Taiwan question is central to China’s core interests and the political foundation of China-US relations. She said Lai Ching-te’s authorities pursue “Taiwan independence,” reject the 1992 Consensus and are the main cause of disruption to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. Zhang warned that mishandling the issue could drive the two countries toward confrontation or conflict.
