Authorities in Ujjain are widening a road for the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh Mela and ordered part of the Shahi Mosque removed. Fearing a complete demolition, Muslim residents dismantled some of the structure themselves. Protests followed, with police using tear gas; at least a dozen people were injured and several were arrested.
