After mass protests over Spain’s housing crisis, a real estate firm agreed to restore 87-year-old Maria del Carmen Abascal’s rent to about $570 a month for eight years, allowing her to return to her Madrid home. Her eviction had made her a symbol of the housing crisis. The government has proposed extending tenant protections through 2030.
