CultureTurner’s ‘great love letter’ to Rome makes brief return before UK auction

JMW Turner’s Rome, From Mount Aventine has briefly returned to Rome for the first time in almost 200 years. It will also be exhibited in Hong Kong and New York before Sotheby’s auctions it in London on 9 December, where it is expected to fetch £50m. The privately owned painting retains its original canvas and frame, along with visible traces of Turner’s work.
