Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky said Germany’s last-minute request for a meeting between Sergey Lavrov and Johann Wadephul produced no substantive result. He called Berlin’s motive mysterious and said Germany may want to show that communication channels with Russia remain open, without any substance behind the contact.
