TechNew Bitcoin proposal could rescue locked multisig wallets — at a hidden cost
Bitcoin’s BIP138 wallet-backup proposal has entered the Bitcoin Improvement Proposals repository as a Draft. It would encrypt wallet descriptors, policies and other non-seed data so complex multisig wallets can be reconstructed, but an eligible extended public-key holder who obtains the backup could decrypt and read that metadata. The proposal describes conditional exposure, not a reported breach, and does not change the Bitcoin network.
