Finland and Sweden carried out their first joint air operation on Sept. 24, scrambling F/A-18 Hornets and JAS 39 Gripens to intercept and identify a Russian formation over the Gulf of Finland. The Russian aircraft remained in international airspace. The mission puts Nordic air-power cooperation into practice and enables each country’s QRA fighters to operate from the other’s bases.
