TechOver 18 deepfake-related fraud cases reported in Russia since 2025, Interior Ministry says
Russia registered 18 fraud cases involving voice-conversion and image-manipulation technologies in 2025 and the first half of 2026, Interior Ministry official Sergey Kalinin said. He described the figure as small compared with 478,831 fraud cases overall, while warning that scammers commonly use generative models to impersonate relatives, bank staff, officials or public figures and pressure victims to transfer money or reveal personal data.
