Riganqiao Wetland in Sichuan’s Hongyuan County now spreads beneath blue skies, with clouds reflected in tranquil waters. During the Long March, the highland marsh was known as the “Sea of Death on Land.” The Chinese Red Army crossed it in 1935–1936 amid treacherous mud, violent weather and shortages, and many did not survive.
