Democratic and Republican U.S. senators introduced legislation on Sept. 23 to extend Temporary Protected Status for Ukrainians, which is due to expire on Oct. 19. The status, granted after Russia’s full-scale invasion, shields recipients from deportation and allows them to work. More than 101,000 Ukrainians held it as of February 2026.
