ScienceXPRIZE Wildfire winners spotted fires within 10 minutes—but couldn’t stop them

Finalists in the $11 million XPRIZE Wildfire competition demonstrated space-based fire detection and firefighting-drone technologies. One track required finding every fire across a large part of Australia within 10 minutes, while another required autonomously detecting and extinguishing a high-risk fire in rural Alaska while ignoring decoys. Neither grand prize was awarded.
