WorldPolish foreign minister holds rare meeting with Belarusian counterpart, discusses ‘improving relations’

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski met Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov at the United Nations to discuss the countries’ border situation and regional security. It was the first high-level meeting between their foreign ministers in a decade. Sikorski said Poland was willing to stabilize ties but stressed that this did not amount to recognizing Alexander Lukashenko’s government, and announced a new Polish embassy building would soon open in Minsk.
