New South Wales’ 2026 State of the Beaches report again rated Coogee as Sydney’s poorest ocean beach for microbial water quality, which is particularly vulnerable to faecal pollution after rain. Of 245 swimming sites statewide, 79% were rated good or very good, while 97% of ocean beaches achieved those grades.
