PoliticsConsultations among five permanent UNSC members on new secretary general soon, Russian MFA says
Russian Foreign Ministry official Kirill Logvinov said the next UN secretary general cannot be chosen by “pure arithmetic” and that full consultations among the five permanent Security Council members are expected to begin soon. After the September 18 straw poll, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Rebeca Grynspan and Olara Otunnu led, each with five to seven opposing votes. Antonio Guterres’ term ends on December 31, 2026.
