Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said the United States must accept a new legal status for the Strait of Hormuz if it wants shipping to pass through. He said Iran and Oman, the two countries that possess the strait, would determine that status. Iran’s parliament speaker previously said the waterway would remain closed to shipping until Washington accepted Tehran’s conditions.
