Europe is heading into a difficult winter because gas storage levels are historically low and supplies are constrained, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said. He cited the EU’s plan to phase out Russian gas by 2027 and the loss of UAE and Qatari supplies following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, leaving Europe to seek more gas from the US and Norway.
