The 134.2-kilometer Pinglu Canal in Guangxi opened to navigation on September 16 after four years of construction. Linking Nanning with the Beibu Gulf and accommodating vessels of up to 5,000 tonnes, it cuts the route to the sea by more than 560 kilometers.
