Although the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali ended its withdrawal in 2023, the organisation remains engaged through UNOWAS and humanitarian and development work. With Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger leaving ECOWAS and strengthening the Alliance of Sahel States, the UN is shifting from troops toward diplomacy, mediation, aid and development.
