PoliticsAlbanese launches Australia’s bid for UN Security Council seat and names former Murdoch aide to top diplomatic post

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has formally launched the country’s campaign for a two-year UN Security Council term in 2029 and 2030. Australia and Finland are competing for the seat, and Australia would need backing from two-thirds of the 193 UN members even if no other candidate enters. Albanese also named former News Corp broadcasting chief Siobhan McKenna as the next consul general in New York.
