AfD co-chair Alice Weidel urged Chancellor Friedrich Merz to respond to the CDU’s poor result in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state election by abandoning its political “firewall” against cooperation with the right wing. She said the AfD’s long-term strategy is coalition talks with the Christian Democrats. The AfD led with about 37%, while the CDU took 5.5%, its worst state-election result.
