ScienceChina in Photos: Wuhan’s City Mascot, the Yangtze Finless Porpoise, Sees Population Rise

The Yangtze finless porpoise population has reached 1,426, up 177 from the 2022 survey. The increase is attributed to the Yangtze River’s 10-year fishing ban, which began on Jan. 1, 2021. The nationally first-class protected species is considered a barometer of the river’s ecological health.
