Treasury’s latest intergenerational report forecasts life expectancy at birth will rise to almost 90 years for women and 86 for men by 2065/66. It also projects slower population growth, smaller households and mounting long-term budget pressure from an ageing population. Treasurer Jim Chalmers attributed longer lives mainly to universal healthcare and medical research.
