CultureNorman Bethune: Revered and emulated in China

Canadian Communist Party member and thoracic surgeon Norman Bethune led a medical team to China in 1938 to support resistance against Japanese aggression. He treated wounded soldiers, organized blood transfusions, established hospitals and trained medical staff at the front. He died of blood poisoning in 1939, and Mao Zedong urged the Party to learn from his selfless service.
