President Isaac Herzog has pardoned Elor Azaria, the combat medic convicted of manslaughter for shooting a badly wounded, unarmed Palestinian attacker in Hebron. The 2017 conviction and Azaria’s sentence divided Israel, while Palestinians and rights groups said the punishment was too lenient. Defence Minister Israel Katz supported the pardon, but the military chief of staff opposed it.
