China became the main destination for Rwandan exports in the first quarter of 2026, taking 26% of the total, up from under 5% a year earlier. The dramatic change followed China’s removal of tariffs on nearly all Rwandan products, but exporters still need to meet sanitary standards to reach the 1.4-billion-consumer market.
