TechFAA tees up $875M AI tool to manage air traffic congestion
The FAA plans to launch SMART, an AI system that advises air traffic controllers in the congested Washington, DC, airspace. It predicts traffic flows and flags potential conflicts using schedules, weather, airport capacity, and airspace conditions. A limited trial at the area’s three major airports could begin as soon as September 21, ahead of a planned nationwide rollout.
