The Philippine Coast Guard accused a China Coast Guard vessel of dangerous manoeuvres before striking the government fisheries vessel BRP Datu Magat Salamat near Palawan. No injuries were reported, but one side of the ship was severely damaged. China rejected Manila’s account and blamed the Philippine vessel for the collision.
