ScienceRussian scientists identify previously unknown warm surface current in Arctic
Russian scientists have identified the roughly 1,000-kilometer Keldysh Current, which carries warm, salty Atlantic water eastward through the Barents and Kara seas. By combining data from 25 expeditions conducted between 1995 and 2024, they found the near-surface flow affects seasonal sea-ice growth and thawing in the Russian Arctic.
