The IOM says about 60,000 migrants and refugees have reached Europe by boat in 2026, a 39% drop from the same period last year. Yet at least 2,292 people died or disappeared during the journey, up from 1,999, with the Mediterranean and Atlantic routes remaining the world’s deadliest maritime passages.
