More than 90% of the 430,000 micro-dramas released online in China during the first eight months of 2026 were AI-generated, according to Wang Xiaoliang of the National Radio and Television Administration. AI has lowered production costs but raised concerns over quality and rights. Regulators removed 68,000 noncompliant dramas and acted against more than 1,200 accounts.
