PoliticsAustralia targets international students and backpackers in migration crackdown
Australia is tightening rules for international students, so-called “visa hoppers” and backpackers in an effort to reduce immigration. Most foreign students will no longer be able to bring family members, while those extending their stay must pursue a higher qualification. Working holiday visas will use capped ballots, except for British applicants. The government aims to cut net overseas migration to 225,000 by 2028.
