The Pinglu Canal has officially opened to navigation, with vessels carrying bauxite and limestone beginning operations on the new route. The 134.2-kilometer canal links Beibu Gulf Port with the Xijiang River basin, enables inland and seagoing vessels to use the corridor, and is expected to reduce transport costs while improving access from southwest China to ASEAN markets.
