Hong Kong’s de facto central bank raised its base rate by 25 basis points to 4.25% on Thursday, hours after the US Federal Reserve lifted its federal funds target range to 3.75%–4% to contain inflation amid conflict in the Middle East. It was Hong Kong’s first rate increase since 2023.
