China opened the Pinglu Canal on Wednesday, creating a shorter route from its landlocked southwest to the coast and overseas markets, especially ASEAN, its largest trading partner. The 134.2-kilometer canal cost 72.7 billion yuan and links Nanning with the Beibu Gulf.
