Global thermal coal consumption is expected to fall over the next two years as a market surplus emerges, NEFT Research consulting partner Alexander Kotov told TASS. He said prices surged in 2026 amid Middle East-related transport costs and supply disruptions, but the factors supporting them are fading. European demand will keep declining as renewable capacity expands.
