TechPinglu Canal showcases smart technologies in landmark waterway project

China’s 134.2-kilometer Pinglu Canal in Guangxi will begin operating Wednesday, linking the Xijiang River shipping route with the Beibu Gulf. The waterway is designed as China’s first fully digital smart canal, using a digital twin, electronic charts, BeiDou, AI, 5G and integrated monitoring to improve navigation and coordination. It is expected to save more than 5 billion yuan in transport costs annually.
