A US Department of Homeland Security watchdog found that immigrants at the now-closed Florida detention centre were placed in outdoor metal cages of about 18 sq ft, sometimes for nearly two hours. The report said the practice was dangerous and unprecedented among detention facilities, while the centre failed basic standards for hygiene, medical care, food, health and safety.
