New Kirby Institute data shows Australia recorded 42,393 gonorrhoea and 5,986 infectious syphilis notifications in 2025, up 57% and 56% respectively over a decade. Syphilis notifications among women rose 167%, raising concern about infections during pregnancy. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to face disproportionately high rates.
