Preliminary results show Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s conservative CDU remained the strongest party in Lower Saxony’s local elections, winning 27.2% of the vote. The SPD came second with 24.6%, while the far-right AfD placed third with 15.9%, more than tripling its 2021 result.
