WorldSomalia faces rising costs as Red Sea shipping is disrupted
Houthi attacks disrupting shipping through the Bab al-Mandab Strait are driving up prices in Somalia and increasing maritime security concerns. A 10-kilogram cooking-gas cylinder has risen from about $25 to $40, while fuel has more than doubled to as much as $1.50 a litre. The disruption is also raising fears of expanded piracy around the Gulf of Aden.
