Russian Presidential Aide Nikolay Patrushev said Western countries had heard Vladimir Putin’s warning over the seizure of merchant vessels but were primarily pursuing their own interests. Putin previously called attempts to restrict vessels operated by Russian businesses “piracy and banditry” and warned Moscow would respond in kind in any waters it considered appropriate.
