Hungarian artist Norbert Olah long kept his Romani background out of his work, fearing he would be labeled a “Romani artist.” As political pressure and prejudice deepened, he made that identity central to his art, confronting discrimination, marginalization and assumptions that Roma art is naïve or unsophisticated. His work has included a brick wall and performance addressing those fears.
