Chinese costume drama Against The Current premiered on CCTV-8 on September 11, drawing attention for its dedication to traditional Chinese aesthetics. Inspired by Jiangnan gardens and a Ming Dynasty painting, the production spent about eight months building a large period-accurate garden, where the main scenes were filmed, to support an immersive and uplifting story about ordinary people facing adversity.
