At a UN Security Council briefing, Chinese envoy Sun Lei urged the parties to renounce the use or threat of force, resume the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding and return the Iranian nuclear issue to a political and diplomatic track. He blamed the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal, military action and maximum-pressure policy for complicating the situation, and called for rational negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
