Three people with West Nile virus have died in the Netherlands since August, bringing reported cases to 18, the national health authority said. RIVM said all but one case, found through a scientific study, were diagnosed after symptomatic patients were hospitalized. The virus is mainly transmitted by infected mosquitoes; there is no licensed human vaccine or specific antiviral treatment.
