EconomyEU falls behind on plan to wean itself off Russian oil and gas

The European Court of Auditors says the EU’s REPowerEU program has fallen short of its goal of reducing dependence on Russian oil and gas. Member states have spent just €54.3 billion of the €300 billion available. Auditors attributed the drop in Russian energy imports mainly to mild winters and high prices, while warning that some countries continue to buy Russian energy. A full EU ban on Russian LNG imports is due in January 2027.
