ScienceAugust was hottest month ever recorded, EU monitor says

The EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service says August had a global average air temperature of 16.96°C, surpassing the previous monthly record from 2023. Scientists mainly attributed the extreme heat to human-caused climate change, while continued ocean warmth and a strong El Niño could raise the risk of floods, droughts and wildfires.
